Alan je oženjen otac troje dece čiji seksualni život biva pogođen kada mu supruga saopšti da više ne može uzimati pilule. Ubrzo se nađe na stolu za vazektomiju i mučnom krizom identiteta. Iako je po svemu razumno dobar, odgovoran čovek, pomisao da će morati "pod nož" tera ga da se izgubi u krizi srednjih godina prepunoj akcije zajedno sa svojim najboljim prijateljima. Alan će sve više odbijati da odraste.
