Opis:
Duke falls for Flaxen in the Barbary Coast in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. He loses money to crooked gambler Tito, goes home and PL: learns to gamble, and returns. After he makes a fortune he opens his own place with Flaxen as the entertainer. The 1906 quake destroys his place.

1906 godine Duke Fergus (John Wayne) dobrodušan rančer iz Montane dođe u San Francisko
i posjeti kockarnicu čiji je vlasnik Tito (Joseph Schildkraut).
Očaran lijepom zvijezdom Flaxen (Ann Dvorak), Duke krene kockati te izgubi svoj teško
zarađeni novac. Tito ga prisili da napusti grad, ali ne zadugo, sledeći put kada dođe,
radikalno mjenja svoju sreću.
Sa svojim dobicima Duke izgradi kazino preko puta Tita i angažuje Flaxen.
Čini se da ništa ne može pomutiti Dukeovu sreću, no razoran zemljotres u San Francisku
postavi pred naše filmske junake neočekivana iskušenja.
