Kao i u filmu „Strogo povjerljivo Ipcres, Michael Caine tumači ulogu Palmera, kratkovidnog britanskog tajnog agenta na lošem glasu. Palmer je poslan u Berlin da istraži veoma sumnjiv prebjeg sovjetskog pukovnika Stoka. Kad bismo vam otkrili da je Stokova smrt prijevara te da se od Palmera očekuje da izvede prebjeg „mrtvaca, ne bismo puno toga odali. No išta više od toga značilo bi otkrivanje cijelog zapleta.
