Mangiati Vivi! je jedan od brojnih filmova kanibalističke tematike koji su u 70-ima i 80-ima preplavili tržište poput npr. Cannibal Ferox 1 i 2, Cannibal Terror, Cannibal Holocaust itd. Izgleda da je Umberto Lenzi posebno obožavao taj žanr sudeći po činjenici da je autor dobrog broja tih naslova te ga se čak može nazvati i tvorcem pokreta zahvaljujući njegovom Il paese del sesso selvaggio iz 1972. godine.
