Bizaran, senzualnošću i dekandencijom natopljen film Kena Russella: godine 1892., na Dan Guya Fawkesa, Oscar Wilde u pratnji svog mladog ljubavnika Alfreda "Boseya" Douglasa stiže u otmjeni pariški bordel. Da bi velikom književniku pokazali u dobrodošlicu, zaposlenici u bordelu improviziraju predstavu Wildeova komada Salome. Wildea će čekati još dva iznenađenja... Godine 1892. Oscar Wilde u pratnji svog mladog ljubavnika Alfreda "Boseya" Douglasa stiže u otmjeni pariški bordel. Da bi velikom književniku pokazali svoju srdačnu dobrodošlicu, zaposlenici bordela postavljaju improviziranu predstavu Wildeova komada Salome. Radnja filma ima dvije niti: prizori iz predstave smjenjuju se s Wildeovim reakcijama. Salome je slobodna Wildeova interpretacija biblijske teme. Herodova pastorka Salome zaljubljuje se u kraljeva zatočenika, proroka Ivana Krstitelja, koji je u celibatu i odolijeva njezinom zavođenju. Osvete željna Salome ucjenjuje kralja. On joj obećava ispuniti svaku želju ako zapleše za njega. Ken Russells adaptation of Oscar Wildes Salome, Salomes Last Dance takes the form of a play within a film. Wilde (Nickolas Grace) arrives at a brothel with his lover, Bosey (aka Lord Alfred Douglas played by Douglas Hodge), where the proprietor, Alfred (Stratford Johns), has gathered his staff and assorted other colorful characters to mount a simple production of Wildes new play. And so, with Alfred playing Herod, and Bosey playing John the Baptist, and with Wilde himself looking on with varying degrees of interest, the play is performed. Salome (Imogen Millais-Scott) is the daughter of Herodias (Glenda Jackson), who has abandoned her husband, since murdered, for his brother, Herod. Herod has an eye for Salome, but she mocks his interest. One evening, she hears the ranting of John the Baptist, who is Herods prisoner, and demands that he be brought before her.
