Opis:

Ratna drama. U ljeto 1940. satnik Karel Hasek (M. Redgrave), pripadnik češke vojske, bježi iz koncentracijskog logora Dachau i preuzima identitet britanskog satnika Geoffreya Mitchella. Nakon zarobljavanja pridružuje se tisućama britanskih ratnih zarobljenika, uhvaćenih tijekom pada Francuske, na maršu prema vojnom logoru.

Ondje drugi zarobljenici posumnjaju da je špijun zbog sitnih pogrešaka u izgovoru te zbog njegovog tečnog njemačkog. Satnik Grayson ga je spreman linčovati, no stariji časnik, bojnik Dalrymple, povjeruje u njegovu priču. Kako bi očuvao privid, Hasek se dopisuje s Mitchellovom ženom Celijom (R. Kempson)...

Na filmskom festivalu u Cannesu 1946. redatelj Basil Dearden bio je u konkurenciji za Veliku nagradu festivala.
