Ovaj film o nevoljama dvojice prijatelja prati propalog boema Nicka Gutlichta i ostarjelog i kontroverznog psihologa Curta Lediga. Kad se susretnu, Nick ubrzo nehotično postaje predmet liječnikova interesa i proučavanja. Nickov život u rasulu postupno se vraća u normalu, a Curtovo sve slabije sjećanje uspijeva razotkriti istinu o svojoj bivšoj povezanosti s Trećim Reichom.
