Američki novinar koji je tokom 13 meseci provedenih u Francuskoj u periodu 1940-1941. uspeo je da organizuje siguran prolaz iz Francuske u SAD za više od 2.000 izbeglica koje su bile u opasnosti da izgube život. Među njima su bili brojni umetnici i pisci i drugim koji su bežali iz Evrope tokom Drugog svetskog rata.
