Belle Starr (1941)

Missouri, neposredno nakon Američkog građanskog rata. Dok se njezin brat Ed (S. Strudwick) borio na strani Juga, prelijepa i prkosna Belle Shirley (G. Tierney) vodila je brigu o velikom obiteljskom imanju. Ed se vraća iz rata svjestan da je Jug poražen, no Belle ne želi prihvatiti poraz. Ed i Belle na imanju organiziraju svečanu večeru na koju je pozvan i bojnik Thomas Grail (D. Andrews), zaljubljen u Belle. Usred večere u kuću pristiže zloglasni južnjački odmetnik, kapetan Sam Starr (R. Scott). Između njega i Belle odmah plane privlačnost. Bojnikovi ljudi uhite Starra no odmetnici ga odmah oslobađaju. U strci koja nastane Starr je ranjen i njegov ga pomagač dovede natrag na Bellino imanje. Bojnikovi ljudi pretresu imanje, pronalaze Starra i za kaznu zbog skrivanja odmetnika Shirleyevima zapale kuću. Nakon što imanje proguta plamen, Belle i sama postaje odmetnicom...

Vestern/drama "Belle Starr" tematizira lik i djelo stvarne osobe, glasovite južnjačke odmetnice Belle Starr (1848-1889), no autori filma nisu bili toliko zagledani u stvarnu biografiju Belle Starr koliko u legendarni spektakl "Zameo ih vjetar", snimljen dvije godine ranije. "Belle Starr" nalikuje spomenutom filmu u brojnim aspektima: vizualnim stilom, motivima, karakterizacijom nekih likova, pa čak i načinom glume glavne glumice Gene Tierney (Laura), koja je pokušala 'skinuti' stil Vivien Leigh. Iako se film redatelja Irvinga Cummingsa kvalitetom ne može mjeriti sa "Zameo ih vjetar", riječ je o zanimljivom i vrijednom ostvarenju koje valja preporučiti svim filmofilima, a nadasve ljubiteljima klasičnog Hollywooda. Partner prelijepe Tierney, kojoj je ovo jedan od prvih filmskih nastupa, legendarni je Randolph Scott, glavni protagonist klasičnih vesterna Budda Boetichera kao što su "Jahač osvetnik" i "Buchanan jaše sam".
