Opis:
Politička ratna drama o američkom časniku stacioniranom u Njemačkoj nakon Drugog svjetskog rata koji je u političkoj nedoumici kad Rusi otmu mladog američkog vojnika, sina uglednog američkog industrijalca. Američki časnik Van Dyke (Gregory Peck) stacioniran je u zapadnom Berlinu. Kada Rusi
u istočnom sektoru otmu mladog američkog vojnika, Van Dykea napada mladićev otac,
bogati industrijalac Leatherby (Broderick Crawford), koji od njega zahtijeva da hitne poduzme sve što može da njegov sin bude vraćen.
Situacija nije nimalo jednostavna jer Rusi u zamjenu za vojnika
traže stariji njemački bračni par, kojeg će najvjerojatnije smaknuti. Iako očajan,
Leatherby mijenja
mišljenje kada ih upozna... Van Dyke mora donijeti diplomatsku odluku, a pomaže mu Hoffy (Anita Bjork), žena u koju ima puno povjerenje....
"Youve never SEEN Gregory Peck until youve seen him in CINEMASCOPE." So read the publicity hype for 20th Century-Foxs Night People. Actually, Peck is his usual solid, stoic self as Col. Van Dyke, a CIA officer stationed in West Berlin. When an American soldier is kidnapped by the Soviets in the Eastern sector, Van Dyke is verbally assaulted by the soldiers influential industrialist father Leatherby (Broderick Crawford), who demands that something be done immediately. The Colonel realizes that its not as simple as that: in return for the soldier, he is expected to turn over an elderly couple, both former anti-Nazi activists, to the East Germans, who will probably execute the couple. Leatherby backs off a bit when he meets the couple, then agrees to let Van Dyke handle the crisis in the most diplomatic manner possible.
