Snimljeno prema romanu Zofije Posmysz-Piasecke. Film je u Cannecu osvojio nagradu FIPRESCI, a Andrzej Munk je nominiran za Zlatnu palmu. Tijekom produkcije redatelj Munk je smrtno stradao u prometnoj nesreći pa su film dovršili Witold Lesiewicz i Andrzej Brzozowski.
